Bible Bit #4

Bible Bit #4 Adam and Eve

Genesis 2:18-25

18 And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

Keep this picture in your mind -- we’ll get back to it: Man, made in the image of GOD, is in a beautiful place and he is all alone. Got it?

Now, we would expect GOD to go right into the story of Eve, but He doesn’t. He forms all the animals and has Adam name them. So this must have taken place on day six of creation. Why? There are many speculations, but the one we will focus on is this: As Adam names all the animals, he probably sees them in pares, each one with its mate. Adam realizes he does not have a mate. None of these creatures are “like him”.

Now go back to that picture of the singular man in a beautiful place and compare it to God being in Heaven. Before the creation God was in a beautiful place, but, even though there were angels, cherubim, seraphim and who knows what else, God was still alone. He wanted a bride. We are here in this life as testing ground. All who OBEY God’s word become part of “The Bride of Christ”.

“And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife.”

The whole Bible is a love story. Over and over, GOD paints the picture of himself as a bridegroom had His people as the bride. For example:

Jesus’ first miracle was at a wedding feast -- and he supplied the wine.

God came to earth in human form when Jesus was born. Jesus is God in a human body. On the flip side, when us humans are born again (Acts 2:38) of water and Spirit and live a holy life, this prepares us to be part of the spiritual body of the “Bride of Christ”.

Revelation 19:7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.

Now imagine Christ on the cross.

In the book of John, chapter 19, the apostle John tells us of the death of Jesus. Before he is nailed to a tree, he is mocked, slapped, whipped and has a crown of thorns put on his head.

He did this for you, his bride.

Time for another mental picture. Even when Christ’s dead body was hanging on the cross, He was not done.

“But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.”

What came out of his side? Blood and water.

Where did it come from? His side.

How are we made part of His Bride? Blood and water.

Get the picture?

Adams bride came from his side.

Christ’s bride also came from his side.

Supportive scriptures for today’s lesson

I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

For as a young man marrieth a virgin, so shall thy sons marry thee: and as the bridegroom rejoiceth over the bride, so shall thy God rejoice over thee

And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.

Genesis 18:24

18 And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

19 And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.

20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.

21 And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;

22 And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

Revelation 19:7-9

7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.

8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.

9 And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.

And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
